BLS Harrow Achieves GOLD in the Mayor of London’s Healthy Early Years London Award

Bright Little Stars are proud to share that our Harrow branch has achieved the Gold award in Healthy Early Years London, being among the first 10 nurseries in the borough Harrow to achieve this. Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) is an awards scheme funded by the Mayor of London which supports and recognises achievements in child health, wellbeing, and development in early years settings. HEYL complements and enhances the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage framework, adding to the focus on children, families, and staff health and wellbeing.

Jeena Kara, Supernumerary 1st Deputy Manager, expressed how “We have been working very hard to sustain the work we have implemented to achieve the Silver Award with the introduction of the vast activities and training we have implemented across the nursery to support children with their speech and language skills.  In order to gain the Gold Award, we started a Toothbrushing Scheme for the children to brush their teeth at the nursery, we have built an amazing partnership with a Dental Hygienist as well as the Dental Wellness trust, who support the staff to implement good oral hygiene within the nursery. The staff are now well trained in supporting children to understand about Healthy Eating as well as having Good Oral Health.

We have also been working very hard on implementing 2-year checks in order to ensure we are supporting the children correctly at this age. It is important for us as a nursery to work in partnerships not only with parents but with outside agencies, for example, speech and language therapists, paediatricians, hearing impairments teams, schools, and more. We do our best to ensure the children are gaining high-quality care and learning during their time here at BLS Harrow.”

At Bright Little Stars we are incredibly passionate about teaching our children how to be healthy. We work in partnership with a qualified nutritionist to create recipes and menus and are very proud of the food that we provide. We love finding new and exciting ways to incorporate food in our classrooms and encourage the children to grow fruit and vegetables that they can use to cook with.

Since January 2021 we have been working on taking part in Healthy Early Years London (HEYL), an awards scheme funded by the Mayor of London where there are 4 levels of Awards to work towards- HEYL First Steps, Bronze, Silver, and Gold.

We are very proud of this fantastic achievement and look forward to applying for further awards throughout the group.
