How We Keep Your Little Stars Safe and Secure By Mandy Guttadauro, Operations Director

“Children thrive when they feel safe, valued and supported. Our commitment is to ensure every family has complete confidence in the care we provide, every single day.”  Mandy Guttadauro

At Bright Little Stars, nothing is more important to us than the safety, wellbeing, and happiness of your child. Every day, we aim to create a secure, nurturing environment where children feel confident, parents feel reassured, and learning and play can flourish.

A Transparent and Secure Environment

We believe families should be able to clearly see how we keep children safe. CCTV operates in learning rooms, gardens, outdoor spaces and sleep rooms to help us maintain high standards of practice. Managers live-stream the CCTV to their desks and watch periodically throughout the day to support ongoing staff training and quality monitoring.

Intimate care areas are never filmed, ensuring every child’s dignity and privacy are protected. Parents have access to Nurserycam for the children’s learning room to engage in their children’s learning.

Intimate Care and Nappy Changing with Respect

Our intimate care routines follow strict safeguarding procedures that prioritise emotional wellbeing and respect. Nappy changing and toileting areas are open areas within the learning rooms, protecting modesty and safeguarding equally.

Where possible, your child’s key person or buddy key person will support them, helping to build trust and consistency.

Responsible Use of Technology and Digital Safety

When used thoughtfully, technology enhances learning. We maintain strong digital safety systems, including:

  • Locked, monitored and professionally maintained nursery devices
  • No app downloads without Head Office approval
  • No personal phones are used in learning rooms or rooms where children are
  • Regular audits of all photo and video drives
  • Fully supervised technology time for children, using only age-appropriate content

These measures protect children’s privacy and ensure technology is used safely and responsibly.

Safe Staffing and Secure Access

Every member of our team completes an enhanced background check and receives full safeguarding and induction training before working with children.

Our buildings are secure at all times. Entry points remain locked, visitors are logged and verified, and children are only released to adults authorised by parents.

Safe and Rigorous Recruitment

Your child’s safety begins with the people we welcome into our nurseries. At Bright Little Stars, we follow a strict Safer Recruitment process to ensure all staff are suitable, qualified and committed to exceptional care.

Our recruitment process includes:

  • Clear advertising outlining our safeguarding standards
  • Initial screening at Head Office level to assess suitability and early years knowledge
  • Structured interviews using consistent, safeguarding-focused questions
  • Practical assessments, including supervised trial sessions with children and activity planning
  • Verification of identity, qualifications and right to work
  • Enhanced DBS checks completed before any unsupervised contact
  • At least two verified references, followed up by phone
  • Health and suitability checks to ensure staff can safely fulfil their role
  • Comprehensive induction, mentoring and safeguarding training before entering the learning rooms
  • Enrolment to a BLS Career Academy, with ongoing training, reviews and appraisals to maintain high professional standards

This rigorous approach ensures that only caring, capable and trustworthy individuals become part of our team.

Working in Partnership with Parents

A strong relationship with our families is essential. We encourage open communication and want you to feel confident approaching us with any questions, no matter how small. Your Nursery Manager is always available to support you and discuss our safeguarding measures.
